Traverse City Family Photos

A few weeks before their world changed forever, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Marit and Matt as they prepared to welcome their baby boy. Their home in northern Michigan was already filled with anticipation.

You could feel it in the quiet moments, in the way they moved through each room, and in the small details that hinted at everything about to shift. Their excitement wasn’t subtle, it was woven into every corner of their space.

After our maternity session, I received a message from Marit at the hospital.
Baby Miller had officially arrived, almost as if he had been just as eager for his debut as his parents were to meet him.

Being invited back into their home just two weeks later allowed me to witness that beautiful in-between stage, where life feels both familiar and completely new.

Their home had transformed in the most honest and heartfelt way.
It wasn’t a complete reinvention, but rather a blending of their past and present.
The same centerpiece still sat on the table, now accompanied by books on nursing and newborn care.
The coffee table where they once relaxed together was now surrounded by soft blankets and tiny baby toys.
Their bedroom remained the same at first glance, with the same comforter and mirror, but now included a cradle and a new reflection of what their family had become.

Even their wedding photos, still hanging proudly on the walls, seemed to take on new meaning.
They no longer just told the story of where it all began, but now marked the beginning of a new chapter with baby Miller.

As a photographer, these are the moments I cherish most. This is what lifestyle newborn photography is all about, capturing the real, unfiltered transition into parenthood. It’s not about perfection, but about preserving the feeling of home, growth, and connection.
