The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park| Traverse City, Michigan
When most people think about booking portraits for their children, they often associate them with major milestones. Senior year. Graduation. Birthdays. Big accomplishments. While those moments are certainly worth celebrating, I believe there is something equally valuable about documenting who someone is in the middle of their story.
This recent portrait session at a botanical garden was the perfect reminder of that.
As a junior in high school, a dedicated dancer, and a musical theatre enthusiast she is in a season of life that deserves to be remembered, even though there isn’t a specific milestone attached to it. Right now, she is discovering who she is, pursuing her passions, and creating memories that will one day feel just as significant as the larger events still ahead.
The botanical garden provided a beautiful backdrop filled with spring color, winding paths, and peaceful corners that complemented her graceful movements as a young lady and as a dancer. Rather than focusing on a particular achievement or event, the session was simply about capturing her personality, interests, and the confidence she carries at this stage of life.
One of my favorite things about portrait sessions like this is that they allow us to freeze moments that might otherwise be forgotten. Years from now, these photographs won’t just show what she looked like as a junior in high school. They’ll remind her of the activities she loved, the way she spent her time, and the person she was becoming.
